On August 6th I took my family to the summit of Huron Peak (14,003') in the Sawatch Range of Colorado. Huron is Colorado's 53rd (of 54) highest peak. A break from a frustrating and historical week that saw the passing of BIG business's Energy Bill. It was my daughter's and my wife's first "14er."

In the background of this photo are a few Colorado centennial peaks, North Apostle and Ice Mountain. Though my daughter Isabela does not understand it now... hopefully one day she will realize how lucky she is to live in this country and particularly in Colorado. Beauty and nature surrounds us at every turn. There are no roads here (yet) and thankfully no one selling hot dogs at the summit.

I only hope we can preserve these pristine places for future generations and keep them safe from the deep pockets and corruption of the mining and exploration outfits who have bought our legislature. We need to teach our children (and adults) not to take these places for granted... because they can be taken away and defiled.
