I'm an Information Technology (IT) volunteer for the Sierra Club Mackinac (Michigan) Chapter. I've been doing this work in one form or another since 1989 when I "married" into the Club. When I got divorced, I got custody of the Sierra Club involvement instead of my ex.

Today, as every day, I spent time as list manager of Enviro-Mich (EM), a high-traffic, 700-person Michigan public listserv on Michigan environmental protection/conservation, which I manage for the Sierra Club, and which I started almost 9 years ago. EM has become a "misssion critical" method of information dispersal and is tracked by volunteers, academics, federal/state public officials, news media, and all major Michigan environmental organizations. I'm also a frequent EM contributor, posting Michigan-related federal register items to the list.

I also am an air quality volunteer and I post narratives, alerts and advisories to EM about Michigan's frequent ozone and PM 2.5 air pollution health hazard episodes. We had a bad PM 2.5 episode with heavy air pollution and visibility degradation all the way to Michigan's upper peninsula just 4 or 5 days ago.

Today, I'm also planning out how to install some USB port printers and scanners at the SC office. I installed the chapter office's local area network and DSL access. I keep the network, hardware and software in the chapter's office running when chapter staff request help. SC group newsletter editors rely on me to produce either labels or data for group newsletter distribution. I take that burden off of the chapter staff.

I should also disclose that I am also an environmental consultant, and several SC chapters have hired me to do air, water, and waste work throughout the U.S., including in Michigan.
