As part of a class on shorebird identification, my wife and I took a field trip with Audubon Society to the local sewage plant today. It serves also as an environmental education center, and the settling ponds are the best shorebird habitat for many miles around. We identified 13 species of shorebird, and counted them as part of an ongoing monitoring project. I also enjoy photographing them, to communicate their beauty to others.

Later in the day, my wife and I read books to plan our trip to Yosemite National Park, where we'll hike and camp. Reading John Muir's descriptions of the park is very inspiring.
