Today I did what I and other resource interpreters are paid to do every day: I presented a program for the visitors to my site, so that they would hopefully better understand the significance of the resources here.
The goal of interpretation is to provide audiences with opportunities to connect emotionally and intellectually to the meanings of a place or thing. By making a place or thing relevant to people's lives, they will come away with an appreciation of the value of the resource, and will care about it and care for it.
I am fortunate that I have a platform from which I can reach so many people with these conservation messages, and from which I may share my love and knowledge of nature with them on a daily basis.
The National Association for Interpretation has more information on how to help people connect to places. Environmental education is essential if we are to help citizens make informed choices about their world.
