Though my efforts I feel are intangible, minute, and not substantial enough, doing something makes me feel better than feeling like a victim who's helpless under an indifferent White House.

My greatest contribution is to provide a legacy to my two boys. Taking them out into nature and showing them the beauty of our world and the importance of preserving it and being responsible for its stewardship are vital. Without instilling such values to future generations would be negligent and the most effective way of letting our wild spaces slip to development and neglect.

Having two small children does not leave much time for substantive environmental work, so I try and do the small things such as recycle phone books at work where people were throwing them away. I cycle to work in order to save gas and the environment, and I explain (not preach) why alternative energy, more efficient fuel sources, etc., and a decrease in drilling are the answers to our future.

So while I don't feel that I contribute much in a concrete manner, I sleep better at night knowing I'm trying.
