Saturday reflections: In a love affair, every moment matters. If only the check arrives in time, inner city kids will watch whales in Los Angeles, clean up a trail in New Haven, ski down a hill in Denver, gaze at bats in Harrisburg, snorkel in Jacksonville, pick strawberries in Raleigh, kayak in Miami, horseback ride in San Diego, and, yes, river raft and backpack in San Francisco. Like a lover, these are the images I cherish as I prepare a fund request for signature, copy it for the file, and deliver the signed original to Sierra Club Accounts Payable for approval and distribution.

During the work week, my job as administrative assistant to Inner City Outings (ICO) is to keep the paperwork flowing. As I record ICO group trip details into the TRAIL database, I picture devoted voluteer leaders as they snatch kids off the streets in far away cities and for a too-brief time transport them to paradise. I picture a short trajectory between moving paper and kids exulting at the sight of osprey, lizards, redwoods, and waterfalls --the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. I think of ICO as the Camelot of the Sierra Club because it seems to bring out the best in every life it touches.

To a child, every moment of love and beauty is precious. I picture ICO making a difference in their lives.
