The day starts about 4:30 A.M. Scratch the dog's stomach and then make the coffee and think about what needs to be done for the day. Now is the critical planning period for the California Coastal Commission Cleanup, and I have a pretty good share of the San Joaquin River to tackle. Not only that but the non-profit organization this 55-year-old retired Army vetereran helped found has an 8-mile trip down the San Joaqun River tomorrow with 13 guests and 7 volunteers.
Early morning and the Park Ranger from Millerton State Recreation Area calls to coordinate his end of the river cleanup. Volunteers call to confirm tomorrow's trip. Load the truck for tomorrow. Tie down the canoes. Create liability waiver forms. All set. Now time to kick back and enjoy McCullough's book about the constuction of the Panama Canal. After all it is 105 degrees in Fresno right now. Looking forward to a Tehipite Chapter hike in the Sierra Mountains next weekend.
